Today is the Memorial of St. Maximilian Kolbe, the Franciscan priest who heroically offered his life in place of a fellow prisoner’s in Auschwitz concentration camp. Though most of us will not be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice of our lives, we can all imitate St. Kolbe’s readiness to give sacrificially in other ways for the good of others. Let us seek his intercession today as we strive to love our neighbors and to discern how the Lord is asking us to serve them.
