Bishop Glen John Provost celebrated Mass at 12:05 p.m. Friday, August 22, in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in response to the Holy Father’s call for a Day of Fasting and Prayer for world peace. He was joined by Very Reverend Ruben J. Buller, VG, Pastor; and Deacon Hunter LaRocca.
The Mass was well attended on a rainy day by many who answered the request by Pope Leo XIV for Catholics around the world to commemorate the feast day of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary by fasting and offering up prayers for peace in places ravaged by violence.
“For the Holy Father to ask us to seek Mary’s intercession in these troubled times is a noble feat,” said Bishop Provost. “We lift up to our Heavenly Father the victims of war, the hostages, the deceased, the injured. May God have mercy on us all and grant the world the peace for which it longs.”
Immediately following the Mass, there was a time of prayer before our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament until 1:00 p.m. to unite with the Holy Father’s intention.
May our Blessed Mother, invoked as Queen of Peace, pray for us that all peoples may find the path to peace.
