Yesterday and today we celebrate a mother and son saint duo—St. Monica and St. Augustine of Hippo.
St. Monica is famous for her never ending prayers for the conversion her son, St. Augustine. Although he spent years away from the faith and in heresy, St. Augustine eventually came back to the Church through the persistence of his mother and guidance of St. Ambrose in Milan, Italy. After his conversion, St. Augustine would become Bishop of Hippo in Northern Africa and one of the most important early Church Fathers. He is a Doctor of the Church.
“You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in You.” -St. Augustine
St. Monica and St. Augustine, pray for us!
