READ: FEAST OF ALL SAINTS | NOVEMBER 1: Today is the Feast of All Saints. Happy feast day!
Today’s feast commemorates all those holy men and women who have attained the beatific vision and can now intercede for us in Heaven. It is a Holy Day of Obligation.
All Saints’ Day precedes All Souls’ Day on November 2, which specifically commemorates the faithful departed who have not yet been purified nor yet reached Heaven.
The Church celebrates All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day in the fundamental belief that there is a prayerful communion between those in a state of grace who have died and are now in Heaven, the Church Triumphant; those who died in a state of grace and are being purified in Purgatory, the Church Penitent; and those of us they are still working out our salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12) known as the Church Militant. Have a very happy feast day!
