• #NewSaintNovember continues with our 4th (of 9) newly canonized saints: St. María del Carmen Rendiles Martínez (1903 – 1977).

“Madre Carmen” was a Venezuelan religious sister and the founder of the Congregation of the Servants of Jesus of Caracas. Growing up as one of eight children, she showed great humility and dedication to education and the poor despite being born without a left arm.

Leaving home at an early age to join a French-based congregation in Toulouse, France, she later returned home to Venezuela where she received papal approval to found an autonomous congregation of sisters. Her order went on to establish numerous schools and convents in both Venezuela and Colombia that remain operational up to this day.
Canonized alongside Saint José Gregorio Hernández Cisneros this past October, together they are Venezuela’s first saints.

St. María del Carmen Rendiles Martínez, pray for us!
