• Our diocese celebrated our annual Memorial Mass of St. Martin de Porres on Saturday at St. Lucy Catholic Church in Houma. We honored St. Martin’s example of compassion and unity, a reminder that holiness starts with love.

St. Martin was the first Black saint of the Americas. He faced poverty, prejudice, and social barriers throughout his life, yet he responded with radical mercy, humility and service.

In a world that still wrestles with division, inequality, and the temptation to dismiss the vulnerable, St. Martin reminds us that the Gospel teaches us to see every person with dignity — and that small acts of charity can transform hearts, communities, and history. He is the patron of social justice, racial harmony, barbers, and healthcare workers.

St. Martin de Porres, pray for us. 🕊️
