• The month of October is a special one for the Church, which celebrates the month of the Holy Rosary, established by Pope Leo XIII in 1891 to encourage Catholics to “pray to her [the Blessed Virgin Mary] throughout the month, invoking her by that most holy rite of the Rosary which the Church, especially in the passage of difficult times, has ever used for the accomplishment of all desires.” This month also saw a number of unique events at our local parishes.

For the month of the Holy Rosary, local artists Joanne Johnson and Jan Bush freshened up Rosary rocks on the church grounds of St. John by the Sea parish in Klawock. (Courtesy of Cathy Bolling)

As Oktoberfest was wrapping up in Bavaria, several parishes joined the celebration, including St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Anchorage. Frs. Sebastian Palepu and Leo Walsh interacted with their parishioners as all enjoyed food, drink, and German music. (Courtesy of Levi Livengood)

At our Lady of Perpetual Help in Soldotna, Fr. James Wallace encouraged donations to the United in Mission Appeal by promising to let the altar servers shave his beard. The honors were done by Iyla Kuchinka during the Knights of Columbus’s monthly pancake breakfast. (Courtesy of Kathryn Dunagan)

As usual, Fr. Augustine Minn, K.M.S. kept busy seeing to the needs of the parishioners in the Mat-Su, baptizing, administering other sacraments, and spending time with Sacred Heart in Wassila’s Filipino community. (Courtesy of Fr. Augustine)

Please continue to pray the rosary and keep our archdiocese in your prayers!
