• #NewSaintNovember continues with our 7th (of 9) newly canonized saints: St. Vincenza Maria Poloni (1802–1855).

“The poor are our masters” was something St. Vincenza loved to say.

Born in 1802 in Verona, Italy, she was the youngest of 12 children in a devout, hard-working family. Her parents modeled daily prayer, charity, and in particular, solidarity with the poor. It didn’t take long for Vincenza to develop a strong desire to care for the poor, as well as the sick and elderly.

When Italy was struck by a devastating cholera epidemic in 1836, Vincenza was fearless—working tirelessly in emergency wards despite the risk to her own life.

She would go on to found a religious community and continue to deepen a spirit of mercy for the most vulnerable. Beatified in 2008, she was canonized this past October.

St. Vincenza Maria Poloni, help us to recognize “our masters” in the poor and to serve them with love. 🙏
