A DeSales University sophomore and his family are gathering thousands of handwritten greetings for people who will be in hospitals and nursing homes this Christmas, and they are welcoming extra help.
Carter Fehlinger, 20, a parishioner of St. Ann, Emmaus, started his “Grammy’s Greeters” project three years ago in honor of his late grandmother, Betty Krisak.
“She always taught me to be a good person and to give back where we can,” he said, “so my family and I are honoring her legacy by learning that lesson and doing this project.”
Last year, Carter and his extended family delivered nearly 6,000 cards to 16 hospitals and nursing homes in time for people there to receive them at Christmas. This year, they hope to do many more.
It’s a project that warms hearts at Christmastime, and it’s also squarely in line with Catholic teaching about performing works of mercy and about following the example Jesus set when he went out of His way to care for people who were isolated or suffering.
