• Jesse Tree Day 15 || Sunday, the Sabbath, is a day for worship, prayer, rest, and works of mercy.

On the 7th day, God rested, and he set aside the Sabbath for worship and rest. So when Nehemiah returned to Jerusalem, he found men working on the Sabbath: “treading wine presses,” and “bringing in heaps of grain,” as well as fishing and selling wares. Nehemiah knew that the people of Judah needed to give God what was owed — a day of worship and rest. In our current day, the Sabbath is still to be a day of worship and rest. Rest can more accurately be described as being at peace with God, or resting in God and his promises. Our worship in the Mass centers us for the upcoming week on our eternal rest in heaven.

This Advent (and maybe even a good New Year’s Resolution!), reflect on your Sundays — after Mass are you making time to be at peace with God? To rest in him and all that he has provided for us? If not, make a plan on how to change your Sabbath to reflect a day of worship and rest!
