• The Most Reverend Glen John Provost, Bishop of Lake Charles, celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Friday, December 12. The bilingual celebration was held at Saint Henry Catholic Church in Lake Charles. The Mass commemorates the appearance of Mary to the Mexican peasant Juan Diego in 1531. The celebration is hosted by St. Henry Parish and the Hispanic Ministry of the Diocese of Lake Charles.

Joining Bishop Provost for the celebration were Rev. Trey Ange, Pastor of St. Henry; Very Rev. Matthew Cormier, V.F., Pastor of Christ the King Catholic Church; Rev. Levi Thompson, Parochial Vicar of St. Henry; Very Rev. Nathan Long, V.F., Pastor of St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church; Deacon Josue Canelo and Deacon Patrick Hebert, both of St. Henry.

A lively celebration filled with faith, culture, dance, and heartfelt devotion continued after the Mass. The “Adelitas Choir” sang a popular song called “Amigo” (Friend) to His Excellency, Bishop Provost. The song became very famous because the people of Mexico sang it to Pope John Paul II during each of his five visits to Mexico.
