Today is the Memorial of 6th and 7th centuries’ St. Isidore of Seville.
As a boy Isidore struggled in school, but was determined to do better. What wisdom do we learn from this Doctor of the Church – do better, don’t give up, keep learning about the faith, be comfortable talking about your faith, and be mindful of not just your little corner, but the whole world.
Saint Isidore of Seville, Spain, became a respected and influential bishop and scholar.
He researched and presented Church history, world history, grammar, medicine, and nature. His writings including the “Etymologiae,” an encyclopedia that helped standardize the use of punctuation, served as a textbooks for centuries.
He dedicated his life to educating people, sharing the faith, and working to unite people – especially those who were divided in the Church and Christian beliefs.
Saint Isidore of Seville is proposed as a patron saint of the internet, computer users, and students, due to his encyclopedic knowledge and his contributions to preserving knowledge.
