On April 22, 2025, the Wisconsin State Legislature adopted Senate Joint Resolution 16, which officially designates May 1 as St. Joseph the Worker Day in our state! From now on, May 1 will be a special day to honor the dignity of all working men and women in the state of Wisconsin. We are the second state in the country, after Louisiana, to mark May 1 as St. Joseph the Worker Day!
Bishop Hying will be joining workers from across our state today at the Capitol at 2:30 pm in celebration of this State Resolution, and he will be offering a reflection on St. Joseph and the dignity of work. We will share video of this event if it is available.
We thank the Wisconsin State Senators and Representatives who supported this bi-partisan effort to recognize May 1 as St. Joseph the Worker Day: co-author Senator Cory Tomczyk, co-sponsors Senators André Jacque and Howard Marklein, and Representatives Elijah Behnke, Bob Donovan, Russell Goodwin, Rick Gundrum, and Dave Murphy.
