Archbishop Christopher Coyne offered the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass today for the Solemnity of the Anniversary of the Dedication of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Hartford (originally dedicated on May 15, 1962). The anniversary of the dedication of a Catholic cathedral is observed on the date of the church’s consecration. It is considered a solemnity in the cathedral itself and a feast in other churches of the diocese. Father John Melnick, Father Daniel Valente, and Father James Gregory concelebrated, and Deacon James McCormack assisted.
