• The Archdiocese of Mobile and Allen Health and Rehabilitation recognized an important part of their history by celebrating the 75th anniversary of St. Martin de Porres Hospital. The hospital was established by the archdiocese and operated by the Sisters of Mercy to serve the black community during segregation. The hospital became a senior residence in the 1970s – Allen Memorial Home – and was acquired in 2016 by Noland Health Service. It is now known as Allen Health and Rehabilitation.

Saturday’s celebration included Mass celebrated by Archbishop Thomas J. Rodi. Those born at the hospital were encouraged to place their names and birth dates in a basket as well as wear a white rose. Archbishop Rodi also blessed the chapel in Allen Health and Rehabilitation, where Mass and communion services are again being held. Noland Health Services, Inc.
