June 22 commemorated the Feast of Corpus Christi for the Catholic Church. This day, also known as the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, celebrates the Most Holy Blood and Body of Christ in the Eucharist. This year, the Diocese of Allentown held a special Holy Hour and afternoon of prayer for the feast day to honor the Most Blessed Sacrament. The event took place at the Cathedral of St. Catharine of Siena in Allentown and began at 2 p.m., filling the pews of the Cathedral.

Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament began the event with four confessors available for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, including Bishop Schlert, Monsignor Donald Cieniewicz (Pastor the Cathedral), Fr. Scheidel (Parochial Vicar of the Cathedral), and Fr. Brelinsky (Parochial Vicar of St. Joseph the Worker, Orefield).

At 3 p.m., Bishop Schlert opened the prayer service with the Incensation of the Most Blessed Sacrament followed by the Sunday Mass readings. In the first reading from St. Paul’s letter to the Corinthians, the congregation was reminded of Jesus words to His Apostles as He instituted the Holy Eucharist: “Do this in remembrance of me.”
