“My heart is filled with profound sorrow as I grieve with our brothers and sisters of the Dominican Republic, especially those within our Archdiocese of Boston, following the tragic event that claimed so many precious lives early Tuesday morning in Santo Domingo.In these moments of deep sorrow, we, the people of God, are called to come together in prayer, and mutual support, remembering that fraternal love and compassion are our greatest strengths in the face of suffering and pain. I encourage my Dominican brothers and sisters that, just as they are known for their contagious joy, may they now, more than ever, be known for their hope in Christ Jesus and their spirit of solidarity as a people.
Together, let us call upon the intercession of Our Lady of Altagracia, protective mother of the Dominican Republic for the eternal rest of the deceased, the comfort of their families, and the strength of all who, with unwavering dedication and courage, continue the tireless rescue efforts. We also hold in prayer those still trapped beneath the rubble; as they endure this time of anguish and suffering, may they feel the presence of God’s comforting love and the certainty that they are not alone. In this moment of profound sorrow, may the Dominican people be upheld by hope, and may the light of Christ break through the darkness with comfort and peace.”

“Con profundo pesar en el corazón, me uno al dolor que embarga al querido pueblo dominicano, especialmente a quienes forman parte de nuestra Arquidiócesis de Boston, ante la trágica pérdida de tantas vidas preciosas en el devastador accidente ocurrido la madrugada del martes en la ciudad de Santo Domingo, República Dominicana.En estos momentos de profunda tristeza, como Iglesia estamos llamados a permanecer unidos en solidaridad, oración y apoyo mutuo, recordando que el amor fraterno y la compasión son nuestras mayores fuerzas frente al sufrimiento y dolor. Animo a mis hermanas y hermanos dominicanos a que, así como se distinguen por su contagiosa alegría, sean también reconocidos, hoy más que nunca, por su esperanza firme en Cristo Jesús y su espíritu de solidaridad como pueblo.
Juntos clámenos la intercesión de Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia, madre protectora de la República Dominicana, por el eterno descanso de los fallecidos, el consuelo de sus familias y la fortaleza de todos aquellos que, con entrega y valentía, trabajan incansablemente en las labores de rescate. También mantenemos en oración a los que aún están atrapados bajo los escombros; que, al soportar este tiempo de angustia y sufrimiento, sientan la presencia del amor consolador de Dios y la certeza de que no están solos. Que, en este momento de profundo dolor, el pueblo dominicano sea sostenido por la esperanza, y que la luz de Cristo traspase las tinieblas con consuelo y paz.”
