#PracticethePresence by meditating on #SacredScripture today:
“As he rode along, the people were spreading their cloaks on the road” (Luke 19:36)
🧥Throughout the Bible, this symbolic gesture is one of paying homage to a new king.“I gave my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who plucked my beard; my face I did not shield from buffets and spitting.” (Isaiah 50:6)
❤️These words, from the prophecy of the Suffering Servant, are a foretelling of the suffering and humiliation of Jesus Christ.“…he humbled himself, becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” (Phil 2:8)
✝️Christian tradition sees Jesus’ physical death on the tree the reversal of Adam’s spiritual death at the tree of good and evil. Adam’s sin brought death to the entire human family. Jesus’ death rescues man from sin and gives him new life.“… ‘I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer, for I tell you, I shall not eat it again until there is fulfillment in the kingdom of God.’” (Luke 22:15-16)
🫓Passover recalls Israel’s deliverance from Egypt and at the Last Supper Jesus reshapes this feast by placing himself at the center — the sacrificial Lamb offered for deliverance from sin and death.
