      Tonight at the Chrism Mass, Archbishop José H. Gomez will anoint three different oils that will be used in sacraments across the archdiocese.

      👑 Chrism Oil: “This oil is a sign that we now share in Christ’s royal priesthood, that we are his co-workers in transforming this world into his Kingdom.” — Archbishop Gomez
      This oil:
      💦Used in: Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Orders
      🕊️Symbolizes: gift of the Holy Spirit
      🌲Made by mixing olive oil with balsam which signifies the fragrance of Christ’s presence.
      ✝️Consecration at the Chrism Mass emphasizes the strength and grace the Holy Spirit provides

      💙 Oil of Catechumens: “This oil is a sign that we have been made Christians — ‘anointed ones’ — sharers in his own anointing, called to follow Jesus on the path to holiness…” — Archbishop Gomez
      This oil:
      💦Used: to anointed individuals before Baptism
      💪Symbolizes: strength, protection, and overcoming of evil
      ✝️Prepares catechumens for the sacrament of Baptism.
      🫒Made of pure olive oil

      😷 Oil of the Sick: “The oil of the sick … is a sign that we are called to be healers in this world where people are hurting and divided.” — Archbishop Gomez
      This oil:
      🤚Used: in the sacrament of anointing of the sick
      🕊️Symbolizes: healing and the comforting presence of the Holy Spirit
      🤗The Church believes the oil brings spiritual and sometimes physical healing to those who are suffering
