🐓 “Amen, Amen I say to you, the cock will not crow before you deny me three times.” (John 13:38).
Today, Jesus faces his betrayal. He eats with Judas, knowing that he will be betrayed him. When Peter tells Jesus that he will lay down his life for him, Jesus tells him that he will deny him three times. Jesus knows what he will face — the mental and physical anguish — and he still chooses to walk the path of the Passion. For us.
We can #PracticethePresence by reflecting on the times that we have betrayed Jesus, or have turned our back on him, refusing to acknowledge him in our lives — times when we have turned our heart from Jesus.
Jesus knows all of this, and walks towards the crucifixion. And when he rises, he offers Peter a chance a redemption, a chance at mercy for those three refusals, asking him if he loves him:
🐑“…Jesus said to Simon Peter, ‘Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?’ He said to him, ‘Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.’” (John 21:15)
🐑“He then said to him a second time, ‘Simon, son of John, do you love me?’ He said to him, ‘Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”” (John 21:16)
🐑“He said to him the third time, ‘Simon, son of John, do you love me?’ … and he said to him, ‘Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.’” (John 21:17)While we contemplate the times we have turned our hearts away from Jesus, let us also reflect today on the times he has offered us his redemptive mercy. The times we have felt the #PresenceofGod welcoming us home with open arms.
Take a moment today to tell Jesus you love him and to ready your hearts to walk towards the crucifixion with him.
