Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone celebrated an Archdiocesan Memorial Mass for Pope Francis today at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption. More than 300 people attended the Mass including SF Mayor Lurie’s Deputy Chief of Staff, Matthew Goudeau; members of the San Francisco Interfaith Council; Presidents and Principals from Catholic Schools SF; student council members from Good Shepherd School in Pacifica; as well as Catholics from across the Archdiocese.
In his homily, the Archbishop spoke on the life and legacy of the Holy Father, noting that the work of the San Francisco Interfaith Council mirrors much of what Pope Francis taught and worked towards.
“This is the lesson I hope we can all learn from Pope Francis: The human encounter which seeks understanding in a way of self-sacrificial love. This is what leads us in the way of truth, light, and a more humane society. Living this lesson is the greatest honor we can give to [God’s] people.”
