This past Saturday, Our Lady of the Isle Catholic Church in Grand Isle reopened after 90 weeks of renovation following Hurricane Ida.

Archbishop Emeritus Alfred C. Hughes celebrated a special Mass to bless the church and dedicate the new altar, which now holds four first-class relics and was anointed with Sacred Chrism. The restored church blends a clean, coastal design with historic elements—marking a powerful new chapter of faith and resilience for the island community.

“The very first words we must speak are words of praise to God,” said pastor Father Mark Toups. “Let us give Him the glory, for He has rebuilt not just the walls of this church, but also the hope within our hearts.”
