Fantastic news today: Pope Leo XIV has chosen to name St. John Henry Newman a Doctor of the Church!
The title of Doctor of the Church is conferred upon saints who have made significant contributions to theology and doctrine through their spirituality, teaching, or writing. John Henry Newman will be the 38th saint to receive such a distinction.
Born in London in 1801, Newman studied at Oxford University and was ordained in the Anglican Church before converting to Catholicism in 1845. He was named a Cardinal in 1879 by Pope Leo XIII.
We also send a shout-out to our St. John Henry Newman Pastorate (Portage/Montello/Pardeeville area) today, too!
