Today is the feast day of St. Clare of Assisi. Claire was born into nobility, however felt a strong call to serve God. She was heavily influenced by the preaching of St. Francis and even spoke with him about her calling. Clare eventually left her home and went visit Francis who helped her enter religious life.
Encouraged and with the help of Francis, Clare established an order, the Poor Ladies of San Damiano who would later be called the Poor Clares.
St. Clare is the patron of embroiderers, goldworkers, laundry workers, needleworkers, telephones, and television. Her intercession is invoked for those suffering from eye diseases and for good weather.
