Today the Universal Church celebrates the Memorial of St. Maximilian Kolbe. This Polish Franciscan friar and missionary is best known for volunteering himself to take the place of a father and husband in the Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II, but his entire life was a witness of faith with a goal of sharing with the globe. Did you know he launched a magazine that is still in print today? Or that he built a mission house in Nagasaki that survived the atomic bomb?
Saints are people, just like us, and their stories are full of real life events. It is their constant conversion, striving holiness, and quest for lifelong discipleship that makes them Saints in heaven.
Today, let us ask for the intercession of St. Maximilian Kolbe and learn more about his life so that we may follow him n the path to sainthood!
