Today, the Church recognizes one of the four Marian dogmas of the faith – the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary. The solemnity, which celebrates the belief that Mary was assumed body and soul into heaven, was recognized as a Marian dogma on Nov. 1, 1950, by Pope Pius XII. It is a Holy Day of Obligation.
