• Today is the memorial of St. Bernard of Clairvaux! St. Bernard was born in France in 1090 and entered the Cistercians (a reform of the Benedictines) at the age of 22, convincing dozens of his friends and family members to join him. He was sent to establish a new monastery in Clairvaux, and he served as the abbot of that community for the rest of his life. He died on this day in 1153 and was canonized just 21 years later. His eloquent writing and preaching earned him the title of Doctor of the Church in 1830, and he is often known as the “Melifluous (honey-sweet) Doctor.”

We send prayers and a shout-out today to our Cathedral of St. Bernard of Clairvaux (Cathedral of St. Bernard, Schenk-Atwood Neighborhood in Madison, WI! St. Bernard, pray for us!
