On this day in 1980, Bishop O’Neil received his episcopal consecration as Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Springfield and Titular Bishop of Bencenna. Both appointments were made by Pope John Paul II.
He would later be installed as the Bishop of Manchester on Nov. 30, 1990, and entered into eternal life seven years later on the same day, Nov. 30, 1997.
