Happy memorial of St. Gregory the Great, Pope and Doctor of the Church! St. Gregory is honored as one of the four Latin Church Fathers, along with St. Augustine, St. Jerome, and St. Ambrose, and he is the patron saint of musicians and singers because of his influence on the Roman Catholic liturgy (Gregorian chant is named after him!). Because of his liturgical patronage, he is the subject of a beautiful new mural in our Cathedral of St. Bernard of Clairvaux! A detail of the mural is featured in this image. Located in the east transept near a small pipe organ, the mural depicts St. Gregory surrounded by the choirs of angels, who worship God ceaselessly. This image reminds us that whenever we attend Mass, we join in the praise of the angels and saints in Heaven.
We look forward to highlighting more features and milestones of our new cathedral in the coming months! For more information on the construction project, visit madisoncathedral.org.
St. Gregory the Great, pray for us!
