• “You’re receiving a pastor who will lead this community by the narrow way. He loves Jesus. He loves you. And like a good parent, he wants to lead you home. He wants to lead you to heaven.”

Such were the words of Bishop Joseph Williams as he formally installed Father Steven Bertonazzi as pastor of St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish – NJ earlier today in St John Church.

During the Mass, which was concelebrated by Bishop Emeritus Dennis Sullivan and about a dozen priests of the Diocese, Father Bertonazzi recited and signed the Oath of Fidelity, and greeted the clergy assigned to the parish, parish leadership teams, the finance and pastoral councils, and more.

“Father Steve did just what the Lord asked of the apostles,” Bishop Williams said. “To renounce even marriage and family – what is the highest good in this life – so he could shepherd this community. … It’s no small thing to be a disciple of Jesus Christ.”
