On September 8, the Church celebrates the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, one of only three birthdays on the Church calendar (the others being Christ’s birth and the birth of John the Baptist.) Although we don’t actually know Mary’s birth date, the feast comes nine months after the celebration of Mary’s immaculate conception. This feast day provides an opportunity to reflect on Mary’s vital role in salvation history. In celebration, consider attending daily Mass, praying the Rosary, saying an extra Hail Mary, or if you have younger children, have a cake or a small party in the Blessed Mother’s honor.
