On this day, 24 years ago, we were struck by a devastating tragedy. In the midst of the chaos in New York City, hundreds of firefighters, police officers and paramedics, ran toward ground zero to save as many people as they could. The 9/11 attacks remain the deadliest terrorist attack in history as well as the deadliest incident for first responders.
Our diocese began celebrating an annual the Blue Mass in response to the 9/11 attacks to pray for and honor our first responders. This year, we will celebrate two Blue Masses, one in Portland on September 21st and one in Houlton on September 28th.
