Yesterday, the Universal Church celebrated the Feast of the Exaltation on the Cross, a beautiful and rich feast in which we recognize the cross as a symbol of Christ’s victory over death to share with us everlasting life in heaven. Today, our focus turns to our Blessed Mother, in the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows. We remember that Our Lady lost her only son to a brutal death on the cross as foretold to her by the prophet Simeon shortly after Jesus’s birth. As we commemorate this feast, let us remember that we as people of God are not alone in our suffering. God is with us, and, and from the cross, he has given us his mother to pray for us and to love us in our times of joy and in sorrow!
