Joining Bishop James Ruggieri for a Mass celebrating the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, Bishop Emeritus Robert Deeley noted the importance of remembering that the sacrifice of the cross is at the heart of our faith: “The cross of Christ is a promise of hope and life. It is through the humiliation of the cross that Jesus shows himself as our savior. In the cross, lies the source of our salvation,” Bishop Deeley said. Celebrated on September 14, the feast commemorates the finding of the relic of the True Cross by St. Helena in the fourth century and
the construction of the first churches in Jerusalem at the site of Jesus’ tomb and Calvary. In attendance at the Mass were members of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, who are committed to supporting the Church in the Holy Land.
