• Did you know today, September 29, used to be a Holy Day of Obligation for Catholics? Known as Michaelmass it concluded a penitential season known as St. Michael’s Lent and honored the victory St. Michael lead over the 6th century plague.

Today is the Feast of the Holy Archangels Gabriel, Michael, and Raphael – the three archangels named in the Bible. From the Old Testament to the new and still today, the archangels have been present and show the might and mercy of God. St. Gabriel is God’s messenger, St. Michael is God’s warrior, and St Raphael is God’s healer.

You can learn much more about the Holy Archangels as well as learn prayers and traditions associated with this feast on the liturgical calendar in our Living Liturgically Series online at nolacatholic.org!
