Happy Feast of St. Francis of Assisi!
St. Francis of Assisi (1182 –1226) is the patron saint of animals, ecology, archaeologists, and Italy – just to name a few. There are many interesting aspects to St. Francis. He believed that nature itself was the mirror of God, and even preached to the birds. We also have him to thank for arranging the first live nativity scene at Christmas.
Especially important is St. Francis’ deep devotion to the Eucharist. We can look to him as a model of Eucharistic inspiration as we come to Mass each Sunday for this life-affirming Sacrament. A wonderful place for Mass is Saint Francis of Assisi Church, Milwaukee WI.
Saint Francis of Assisi, pray for us!
