On Friday evening, October 17 at St. John Church in Bangor, close to 200 parishioners filled the pews, excited to hear from four special guests who had traveled from New York – the Sisters of Life. Sister Ann Immaculee, Sister Cor Jesu, Sister Mara Immaculata and Sister Tirzah Mariae led us through a powerful evening consisting of prayer, a talk given by Sister Tirzah, worship music, and Adoration, concluding with social time in the church hall.
One of Sr. Tirzah’s hobbies before taking her vows was swing dancing. She shared that much of what she learned through that hobby: the importance of trusting your partner’s lead, looking up at their face instead of your own feet, and that only when you let go – can you be pulled back in, applies to a strong relationship with the Lord. We must trust that he knows the way, we must always be looking up – to Him, and we need to let go of earthly attachments and desires and in that letting go, we will discover His love and plan for us. The Sisters of Life spent time with students at All Saints Catholic School on Friday, and on Saturday spent the day with Focus missionaries and young adults at the University of Maine.
Pastor, Monsignor Andrew Dubois, and Pastoral Life Coordinator, Deacon Luis Sanclemente have spent three years trying to coordinate a visit from the Sisters of Life, and were overjoyed to see this come to fruition. Deacon Luis said, “The Sisters of Life are an awesome religious order that offers so much to our Church. Their visit changed many lives in our school and parish. And their message of loving and hopeful surrender to Christ is a great reminder to all of us on how to journey to let God make us saints in every day life.”
