The third pillar of Bishop Hying’s vision for our cathedral is the role it will play in the intellectual and cultural life of our diocese.
“Cathedrals have always served as a locus for the intellectual and cultural life of the Church. Our cathedral will be a center of learning where lectures, presentations, and formation will deepen our people’s theological and spiritual understanding of the Catholic faith. In this rich tradition, our cathedral will serve as a home where prayer and study enrich one another to deepen our sense of Catholic culture.” -Bishop Hying
In addition to the cathedral’s liturgical significance, it will serve as a central place where people can encounter God through the Church’s vast intellectual tradition. The beauty of our cathedral has the power to not only attune our hearts to God through prayer and worship, but to open our minds to Him through formation of the intellect. By being a place where both the heart and the mind are nourished, the Cathedral of St. Bernard of Clairvaux will empower Catholics to build up a more authentically Catholic culture within their parishes, families, and communities.
