• Please read Bishop Steven’s recent blog on perseverance. https://dcwy.org/read-the-bishops-blog

In his blog, Bishop Steven reminds us how being rooted in the Word and in communion with Christ is what can bring us peace during times of turmoil or despair.

“People with perseverance let the Word take root in them. No matter what, they take time to listen to the Lord. Especially in sickness or tragedy, they persevere in prayer. Are you tempted to give up hope in your faith life? Or are you tempted to despair because of the chaos in the world? Then renew your commitment to prayer and the Word of God. Ask the Holy Spirit for the ‘endurance of Christ.’

Sometimes people ask me, ‘How do you deal with all the problems in the Church?’ I like to respond, ‘They are not my problems. It is God’s Church, so they are his problems. I am working for God to help him.’ I wish that I always had that outlook, but sometimes I don’t. It is easy to get caught up in problems and act as though I am in charge. Then I become anxious and burdened.

However, prayer restores my peace. The problems remain, but my perspective is hopeful and peaceful. Then I see myself as serving the Lord and not working by myself. It’s the Lord’s Church, not mine. I’m a worker in the Lord’s vineyard.”
