On this Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time, we reflect on Jesus’ warning that even seemingly permanent things in our lives can crumble, yet God remains faithful.
The disciples were admiring the beauty of the Temple when Jesus told them that one day “not a stone will be left upon another.” Naturally, they wanted to know when it would happen and what signs they should look for? Jesus’ response points them away from predictions and back to trust.
He prepares them for real trials — conflict, confusion, and even persecution — but he also gives a powerful promise:
“By your perseverance you will secure your lives.” Not by fear. Not by trying to control events. Not by following every new voice claiming authority. But by staying rooted in him.We all know what it feels like when parts of life begin to shake: concerns for our families, uncertainty about the future, divisions in our communities, or the overwhelming pace of world events. The Gospel doesn’t deny these realities. Instead, Jesus reminds us that our security is never found in earthly structures, achievements, or predictions — it is found in his steadfast love.
