Today is the feast day of St. Cecilia.
St. Cecilia, a vow virgin was forced to marry against her will to Valerian, a practicing pagan. On their wedding day, Cecilia sang from her heart a song to God.
On her wedding night, she told Valerian that an angel of God was sent to protect her virginity. Skeptical of her story, Valerian said he would not acknowledge her vow unless he saw the angel. Cecilia told him that to see the angel, he would need to convert to the faith. Upon his baptism, Valerian saw the angel which also led to the eventual conversion of his brother.
Cecilia and Valerian dedicated the rest of their lives to preaching the gospel and burying Christian martyrs. After her husband’s death, Cecilia was also captured and martyred for her faith.
She is the patron of music and musicians.
