• We celebrate Advent each year light our Advent wreaths, saying particular prayers…but do we ever consider the meaning of the Advent wreath? Let’s explore that together!

The Advent wreath itself represent God’s infinite love for us. There are also four candles, each representing each Sunday of Advent

The first candle is purple as it symbolizes royalty, as Jesus is king. It represents hope, referring to the hope we have in Jesus’ coming.

The second candle is also purple and represents peace. It refers to Jesus’ coming ultimately bringing peace to all the Earth.

The third candle is rose and represents joy. Rose is the liturgical color for joy and symbolizes the joy of the Jesus’ coming.

The fourth candle is purple and represents love, which is very reason Jesus came into the world: to save us out of love for us.

Sometimes, a fifth candle is lit on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. It is white and is called the Christ Candle, representing Jesus being the light of the world.
