Don’t forget that tomorrow is St. Nicholas Day! Parents, consider this your reminder to have your kiddos leave their shoes out tonight, and to get to the store today if you are in need of some last-minute shoe-stuffers 😉
St. Nicholas was known for his generosity to the poor, and according to one legend, he threw a bag of dowry money through the window of a poor family whose daughters were in danger of being sold into slavery. Some of that money landed in the family’s shoes, which were drying by the fire, thus beginning the tradition of children leaving their shoes out the eve of St. Nicholas Day (December 6) so they could be filled with gold coins or other goodies! These days, gold-wrapped chocolate coins, oranges, and small toys and treats are popular St. Nicholas Day gifts.
St. Nicholas, pray for us!
