• In this Sunday’s Gospel, John the Baptist cries out in the wilderness with the message, “Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.” John reminds us that God’s kingdom is now, and it is us who are the hands, feet, and voice of Jesus.

John the Baptist teaches us that preparing the way is not only an interior act, but one in which justice is in action. Through repentance, we make way for God to convert our hearts – hearts ready to serve the poor, hearts that recognize the dignity of each person, and hearts that long to do God’s will.

This Advent, consider the ways the gift of repentance has opened you to deeper justice, peace, and mercy. Then ask yourself where the Lord is calling you to help prepare the way today.
