• On December 9, we celebrate the Feast of St. Juan Diego, the humble man to who whom the Blessed Mother appeared on Tepeyac Hill in Mexico in 1531. Raised Aztec, St. Juan Diego, whose birth name was Cuauhtlatoatzin, became the messenger of Our Lady of Guadalupe, including delivering a request from her to the local bishop, asking that a church be built in her honor. Although it was winter, the Blessed Mother placed flowers within St. Juan Diego’s cloak, which spilled out before the bishop to convince him of the truth of the message. An image of the Blessed Mother also appeared in the cloak.
