Jesse Tree Day 9 || In the Old Covenant, the priests offered the sacrifice of animals. In the New Covenant, the priests offer the sacrificial lamb during the Mass.
Sacrifices are present throughout the Old Testament — sacrifices of animals and crops, valuable things during their times. By establishing Aaron as a priest of the Old Covenant, God is telling us that sacrifice is a necessary part of worship, something we still partake in today. Jesus’ sacrifice on the Cross was perfect and sufficient for the salvation of the world, God gave us the Mass as a way of participating in that sacrifice. Through our participation in the Mass, the redemptive graces given on the Cross are available to us.
This Advent, try and make extra time for the Mass — maybe adding a daily Mass into your week until Christmas!
