Today is the fast day of St. Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin.
A convert to Catholicism, Juan Diego is known for his devotion to the faith. After an encounter with the Blessed Mother, she asked him to build a chapel on Tepeyac Hill (Mexico City). After multiple attempts to convince his bishop, Juan Diego opened his cloak revealing an image of Mary created by the flowers she asked him to collect.
To this day, St. Juan Diego’s cloak remains intact in the Basilica of Guadalupe on Tepeyac Hill. He was canonized by Pope John Paul II in 2002.
