“What a blessing it is to see where we began to where we are today.”
#ICYMI Earlier this month, current and former staff of VITALity Catholic Healthcare Services, gathered with Bishop Joseph Williams to celebrate 10 years of compassionate service across South Jersey.
Before VITALity’s creation, the Diocese operated three nursing homes that served an average of 500 individuals. Today, thanks to VITALity’s vision and growth, those numbers have soared: hospitality chaplains reached more than 58,000 people in 2024; parish nurses supported 15,000 parishioners; care coordinators assisted 2,700 families.
Bishop Williams credited Bishop Emeritus Dennis Sullivan for the foresight “to amplify the closeness of God to those who are sick or aging.”
VITALity’s executive director Nicole Keefer agreed, noting that Bishop Sullivan recognized the Church’s sacred responsibility to care for the sick, aging, vulnerable, and sometimes forgotten.
“He asked us to reimagine what Catholic healthcare could look like – could we develop a way to keep having a healthcare presence in the Diocese of Camden that encompassed whole-person care, care of the body, mind, and spirit? We now know that answer is yes,” she said.
