During one of Our Lady’s four appearances to St. Juan Diego, she instructed him to gather roses in his tilma (cloak) and present them to his local bishop. When he opened his tilma in front of the bishop, the roses fell to the ground, and an image of Our Lady was miraculously imprinted on the fabric.
A basilica was later built at the apparition site to honor the Blessed Virgin.
