• In 1531, when the Indigenous peoples of Mexico were suffering under the weight of violence, cultural erasure, and spiritual confusion – an apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared to Saint Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin with a message of hope to the Mexica people.

Our Lady reveled herself to Juan Diego, resembling his dark skin and indigenous features and calling out to him in his native tongue. In the miraculous image on Juan Diego’s tilma Our Lady of Guadalupe bears symbols known only to the Mexica people. With this, Our Mother bridges the message of Christ the Savior while restoring the dignity of a culture that had been told no longer had worth.

May Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mother of the Americas, continue to intercede for all people, especially those whose dignity has been overlooked or suppressed. May she teach us again of the true heart of her Son.
